Governor Rejects Bali Tourism Slowdown Claims During Year-end Holiday

BALI, JAMBI-INDEPENDENT.CO.ID - BALI Governor Wayan Koster rejected claims that BALI is experiencing a downturn in its tourism sector during this year-end holiday period, calling such information a “hoax.”

"We recorded an increase in tourism visits, which means that (tourism downturn claims) on social media is a hoax," Koster told ANTARA at the sidelines of his visit to the Port of Benoa here on Wednesday.

Describing social media posts claiming "lacklustre" tourism activities in Bali during the year-end holiday as "baseless", the governor said that the province has received 6.8 million foreign tourists on a year-to-date basis, surpassing the 6.3 million foreign tourists' visits recorded in 2024.

He said Bali also received an average of 20,000 foreign tourists daily from December 19 to 22, 2025, and expressed optimism that the island province will welcome 7 million tourists by the end of 2025.

Meanwhile on a separate occasion, the Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI) in Badung District, Bali, said that the province has welcomed 9 million domestic tourists this year, and the number is projected to reach 10.5 million by the end of 2025.

Deputy Head of PHRI in Badung District, Komang Alit Ardana, stated that it is unfair to compare Bali's tourism with that of Malaysia, Singapore, or Thailand. He even suggested such narratives were created by competitors.

"We must play a role in promoting (Bali tourism), and we also affirm that Bali remains a popular and a must-visit tourism destination," Ardana said.

Moreover, Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport stated that between December 15 and 23, 2025, the airport recorded 126,152 passengers in domestic arrivals and 192,960 in international arrivals.

The airport also recorded an average daily arrival of 67,112 passengers and the movement of 423 flights during the same period.

Moreover, Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport reported that between December 15 and 23, 2025, the airport recorded 126,152 domestic arrivals and 192,960 international arrivals.
